Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, currently world’s richest person with wealth of $137 billion, may lose this tag to Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, who is worth $92.5 billion and is the second-richest person in the world, if his wealth is split equally between him and wife MacKenzie, a Bloomberg report said.
The 48-year old MacKenzie, with $69 billion wealth (if the couple split their fortune equally), could become the world’s richest woman, the report added.
According to a report in news agency Agence France-Presse, Bezos and MacKenzie met in 1992, before he became an entrepreneur and they married in 1993. From Amazon’s humble beginnings in 1994 from a garage in Seattle to becoming world’s biggest e-tailer, MacKenzie was with Bezos’ side for the entire adventure.
According to celebrity news outlet TMZ, the Bezoses did not have a prenuptial agreement — which could mean an even split of assets.
Bezos currently own 16 per cent stake in Amazon, the bulk of his assets, valued at around $130 billion. Any divorce settlement would include his stock portfolio also. If it were split in half, that would leave Bezos with an eight per cent stake and MacKenzie will get the other 8 per cent stake, valuing nearly $65 billion, the AFP report said.
Other than Amazon stake the former couple, according to TMZ, own 400,000 acres of property, which would also be equally split between them. Worth mentioning here that Bezos and MacKenzie have four children – three sons and an adopted daughter.
